In our society there seems to be a stigma that follows the homeless and the less fortunate. People tend to stereotype these individuals as lazy or mentally challenged. Actually some are homeless veterns, retired seniors, handicapped or victims of spousal abuse. Grace Resource Center is a non profit organization located in the high desert that provides hot meals to the homeless and grocieries to the needed. Majority of facilities like Grace are usually located on the outskirts of town or in areas that are deemed depressed. Poverty has no qualifications. They are families, seniors, handicapped, men, and women that have fallen to the need of Grace.

From the street a woman named Dorothy , who looked like she could be the age of my grandmother walked into the outside waiting area of Grace Resource. She placed her walking-basket behind a row of water bottles and small plastic bags to keep her place in line for food. While Dorothy rested waiting for her place in line, she began to talk with me. I was begining to feel like she was interviewing me. Because she was the most vocal she appeared to be the spokes person for the seniors present. She has worked and dedicated her entire life to the city government sector and retired at a rightful age. Dorothy walks several miles once a month with her walker basket to Grace Resource Center to receive groceries. Not only Dorothy but several other seniors share her same story. Many have mentioned they have fulfilled their responsibility by working their whole life and retired. Now with all the cut backs, removal of programs, they can't afford to eat. If it were not for Grace Resources they would go without food for some time. There are many other unfortunate ventures that lead individuals to the need of Grace Resources. This is just one of many stories.

These images capture the helplessness of individuals that society attaches blame too. I want to relieve them of the blame and give them a face. I will continue to explore many facilities that assist individuals like Grace Resource Center. To show that the next person that falls to Grace could be someone like you. Grace Resources
